It’s hard to leave a dog behind, even it seems in domestic abuse situations. An Urban Resource Institute news release stated that the┬áNational Coalition Against Domestic Violence found that “40% of domestic violence victims stay in abusive situations out of fear of what would happen if they left their pets behind.” But now the first-ever NYC initiative has started a pilot program to shelter (human) victims of domestic abuse with their dogs when escaping these horrible situations at home. It’s called the URI PALS program, and it started this month in 3 NYC shelters.
